For a breathtaking weekend experience, all that is required is a quick car trip, a good pair of walking shoes and a map to Katoomba.

Katoomba is the best known part of the Blue Mountains and contains many of the area's famous landmarks. The town is ideal for sightseers, hikers, cultural enthusiasts and those looking for a bit of rest and relaxation.

Start the day with breakfast and coffee at one of the many rustic cafes in the area. The Hatter's Cafe is recommended for good value and a family friendly atmosphere. The majority of a day in Katoomba is best spent exploring the walking tracks starting at Echo Point lookout. Walkers can take it easy on the shorter walks to the Three Sisters and other iconic landmarks or take the hard slog on longer walks.

All this walking is sure to build up thirst and an appetite. For an classy drinking experience, visit the stunning Carrington Hotel. Hungry weekenders cannot go past the iconic Avalon, formerly the Savoy theatre. Once the day is done, weekenders can retire to their choice of a number of quality accommodation options. The best part is that it is only a quick drive back home.

To enjoy all the stunning beauty and history that NSW has to offer, there is no better place than Katoomba.
