Established in 1889 as the Kynuna Hotel, is still kicking and still serving locals and travellers. Kynuna's only hotel and pub is a well-known place, especially for travellers around the north-west outback of Queensland.



Kynuna is located on the banks of Diamantina River on the Landsborough Highway about 1,521 kilometres north west of Brisbane and 303 kilometres south-east of Mount Isa. The town was established in the 1860s and originally had a Cobb & Co Coaches staging post and 3 hotels, but only that still stands in operation today.



The hotel was named after the famous Australian working dog. On the rooftop of this pub, you can see the cheeky blue heeler poking its tongue at you. You can also see some doggy paw prints on the chair set on the hotel's front verandah.





As you walk inside the pub, you will notice that the pub's wall and ceiling covered with names, dates and signatures. Travellers that stop by the hotel, often leave a piece of themselves as – what they called – Pubobilia, by marking their existence with their names or signature.







The hotel is still in its original site and has not changed. It has historical value and you can see it in the photos that adorn the walls, donated over the years by past residents of the town. When the little pub turned 100 in 1989, it was renovated for the milestone, including a big fireplace built by the late R.M. Williams to restore its outback charm and character.







Just like other pubs, provides typical pub food in big servings and cold beer. Besides food and drink, this place also offers a motel, donga, and powered and camping sites. Come and drink to man's best friend when you pull into the historic little timber building in outback Queensland.
