I like to participate in life rather than be a spectator. Music, dancing, theatre, travelling, food, cycling and walking are some of my passions. Writing is an enjoyable pastime that allows me to share my experiences.

The Blue Fox is a local bar and restaurant serving up delicious seasonal food and is very popular with the people of Lithgow. Located in a refurbished stone house on Main Street, it has only been open since 2017 and is owned and operated by a mother and her two daughters. Driving home from Dubbo on a wet Saturday, we were lucky to secure a table for lunch.

The bright modern interior of the restaurant is reflected in the food style, which is modern Australian using seasonal and local produce. The menu has a wide variety of foods from snacks, small plates to share, large plates and desserts. Daily specials are also a feature. The confit duck leg was juicy and tender and its richness was contrasted by the freshness of the fennel and citrus salad. The crackling on the pork belly was crunchy with the right amount of salt, whilst the flesh was moist and tasty. The accompanying vegetables were cooked well maintaining their crispness.

The wine list features regional wines and craft beers and cocktails are a specialty. The coffee is high quality from Fish River Roasters and really hit the spot.
The Blue Fox has a lovely atmosphere suitable for couples and/or groups and booking is preferred as they get very busy. Children are welcome and they have a dog-friendly courtyard out the back. Check their Facebook page for details of special events such as wine tasting dinners, Easter & Mother's Day lunches.
