A group of us gathered at the Blue Chili Thai for a catch up over dinner. The Blue Chili is new to Gladesville, taking over from the former Star of Thailand restaurant. From the shop front, it is a deceptively small looking restaurant.

As one enters this restaurant, there are a few tables and chairs in the front section. Walking through this eatery, though, it curves around to reveal more seating plus an outdoor area.

We perused the menu, licking our lips trying to decide which dishes we would share. After much debating, we made our decision. We ordered fish cakes and spring rolls for the entrees. The fish cakes were cooked beautifully and the spring rolls were wonderful.

We also ordered Beef Massaman (my personal favourite at Thai restaurants). This dish did not disappoint. It was moist and delectable.

The Chicken green curry and chicken pad thai were another two of our favourite Thai dishes. Both these dishes were superb.

Next on the order was a beef stir fry with cashew nuts, and a vegetable and tofu stir fry with oyster sauce. I love the texture of nuts in a stir fry and this meal was wonderful. My friends who are vegetarians said the vegetable and tofu stir fry was delicious. We also ordered an unusual side dish called Pineapple Fried Rice, which is a whole pineapple filled with fried rice and mixed with pineapple pieces, chicken, prawn and nuts. The contents were very hot. I guess the pineapple acts as an oven keeping the contents hot till we dished it on our plates. I enjoyed this serving, it was like a sweet and sour dish.

We also had a chicken fried rice and a steamed rice.

As well as all the other dishes, we ordered another unusual dish - the papaya salad. There were pork chops on top of papaya with green beans, cherry tomatoes, peanuts and shrimp with a lime dressing. Most tried this dish but some of us thought it was an uninteresting dish. The serving may have been improved without the pork chops.

Overall, the food was great. None of us had wine, only one person had a soft drink, as we were going to visit a friend's home later that evening for coffee and cake. So the bill came to be $20 per person which was good value for all the food we ate. The service was attentive and the ambience of the restaurant was nice. Blue Chili Thai restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
