Nestled amongst the many lit up restaurants in the middle of Newtown in the evening on Sunday, Blossoming Lotus was a surprise find indeed. Fully vegan yet catering for all those that crave the flavour and texture of meat, you'll find various types of soy that does a decent job replacing your carnivorous cravings.

The restaurant doesn't look like much, quite a humble atmosphere, but never judge a book by its cover right? Great place for a quick lunch during the week if you work around here, or take away dinner, there's plenty of options on the menu for individual meals or to choose from the buffet where you can mix a few different dishes on a plate.




My favourite was the satay sticks with crispy tofu and peanut sauce - tasty and quite filling too. The pad Thai wasn't the best I've ever had, a bit too overpowering on the lemon flavour but still edible; I would've also liked to see more peanut on it.


The friend I had with me chose to mix a few different dishes including hokkien noodles, another variety of very crispy tofu which was quite nice, and a softer, meaty textured tofu in a different shape.




The dessert menu also looked delicious, although we didn't get to try it this time, and also very affordable, e.g. the sago and black bean only being about $5-$6. Other things on the menu (images attached) included rice and curries, the usual green, jungle, red, yellow and penang, as well as noodle varieties, laksa, fried rice varieties and a delicious list of entrées.

The menu also includes the usual beverages such as teas and coffees, soft drinks but no alcoholic beverages. I was disappointed there was no coconut drinks, which would have been a nice addition. Furthermore, you also have banquet menus to choose from of which there are three menus. There is also a separate menu for additional sides too.

Whilst I wouldn't come here for fine dining, I think it's a nice joint for a quick bite or take away at affordable price. Also great for vegetarians or vegans for a change looking for different choices on the menu.
