Not just because the founders of West End's Art and Design Precinct had hosted the opening night of an exhibition themed 'Bloom'. Not just because visual and music artists had showcased their works and talents. Not just because art-appreciators had come along, filling the Precinct with happy chatter.
It was because of all these things.
I'd like to say: "Brisbane's art scene is flourishing".
But just as flowers can't blossom if seeds aren't planted in the right environment and the seedlings, nurtured, art is nothing without an environment where it can be displayed and nourished to full potential by the reactions and feedback of an audience.
To say "Brisbane's art scene is flourishing" would be to overlook the immense effort of those behind it.
So, instead, I'll say it's places like West End's Art and Design Precinct and the people I met there at the launch of 'Bloom', that are to thank for Brisbane's increasingly stunning cultural garden.
The Precinct directors, artist Michelle Bowden and interior decorator Grant Hiscock. The duo have made it their mission to bring great art and interiors together in a commercial, social, learning and sharing environment for all.
Singer/songwriter Jodie Hazel, who has devoted her life to inspiring people with music. I asked her what she thought of those who say the music industry is hard to break into. "Screw them," she told me, "I'm following my dreams."
Jessica Malousis, an artist, teacher and manager of Artful Snippets – a collaboration of local art and craft workshops. Her goal: to encourage participation within the fine arts. Her superpower: instilling confidence in people of all ages, to experiment and express themselves creatively.
And people like you.
Yes, you, reading this article. Would I be right in thinking you're on this website, searching for great places to visit or fiestas to check out?
If so, you're a supporter of local events. And your support is priceless.
Check out 'Bloom' and future exhibitions at the Arts and Design Precinct; grace the Precinct with your presence at its life-drawing classes; mingle with artists and art-enthusiasts alike.
Because Brisbane's cultural garden is blossoming.
But what is a beautiful garden, without someone to appreciate it?
