Bloodlust is a supernatural mystery set in Malibu, California. Jason Freeman and his family move to Malibu at the end of summer from Michigan. Under the recommendation of his aunt his family moves into the super exclusive gated community of DeVere Heights. Which also seems to be the way that the school groups are divided into as well. The kids who live behind the gates and the rest. Behind the gates lives the super rich kids with the fabulous parties and the ever so perfect Sienna.

After just one meeting Jason is enamored with her and is ecstatic that she's included him in her group of friends. But Sienna and her friends hide a dark secret.

It is a very short and easy read. It is written for young adults but I think some adults may also find this a fantastic read. I for one loved it. A unique aspect of this book was that the main character who wasn't a vampire was a male and Duval makes you feel that your experiencing everything with Jason as he starts his new life in Malibu.

There was a lot of differences to the vampires to many of the genres out there which I found refreshing. They weren't all dark and moody or sparkled in sunlight. They were just like regular people who drank blood. This is the first book in the Vampire Beach series and it is a cross between "The Lost Boys" and "The OC" so if you like them you'll definitely love this.
