Bohemian spirits and lovers of luxury, listen up! Hidden in a green wall inside Braddon's ORI arcade is a concealed door. Dare to open it and you can sneak into the world of
Blissiimo , a world of pleasure for all of the senses. A space that pays homage to the 16th century salons of France where fashionable and daring writers, poets, artists, musicians, and social butterflies would gather and engage in conversation, Blissiimo is Canberra's very own modern day salon right in the bustling heart of Braddon.
The feel inside is timeless and offers a calm respite, a place where you can relax and sip on the finest teas from around the world and enjoy the ritual of brewing, pouring and savouring the tea unhurried. You can settle in on a couch, take a table inside or even find a space outside and the tea will come to you. Served in glass pots and oversized glass mugs, you can see, smell and taste the delicate tea. As well as tea, there are jewel bright macarons and cakes to maximise the experience.
When you visit, it's hard not to be lured by your nose to the candles and incense all waiting patiently for you to lift their cloches and breathe in scents inspired by more traditional florals and botanicals but also the smells of old mossy walls, Balmoral Castle and even a fragrance inspired by Che Guevara. These fragrances are truly beautiful, not sickly sweet or artificial. Think instead the type of smell that, if you close your eyes, is so evocative it can dredge up long hidden memories because they smell so much like the real thing.
The incense bar is full of beautifully packaged incense and you can also find a range of antique kimonos. As well as candles and incense, Blissiimo stocks perfumes, again in a range set far apart from the usual offerings you might find (hint: these aren't pop star branded bubblegum smells, these are the real deal and well worth checking out.)
Whether you need some olfactory pleasure or just prefer a really nice cup of tea, Blissiimo is a very unique and beautiful place to spend an indulgent hour next time you need to wind down and relax. Who knows, you may even strike up a chat with the next big writer, artist or musician reminiscent of those heady 16th century salon conversations.
