Yes, France is a 20-something hour flight from Sydney, but you can forego the long-haul journey and save your airfare money by simply heading to Customs House from Friday 10th July until Sunday 12th July for the 2015 BBR French World Festival.
WHAT'S IT ALL ABOUT? According to Festival Director, Vincent Hernandez, it's all about celebrating everything French. "BBR French World Festival is an opportunity to celebrate 'Bastille Day' like the French do in the heart of Sydney, where we provide three fun filled days with fantastic activities for free, open to everyone, it's one of a kind here in Australia".
It's a unique three-day salute to "Le Quatorze Juillet" (Bastille Day), with live concerts, delicious French food, cooking masterclasses, exciting entertainment, authentic cabaret, and foreign film screenings all inspired by the French style and spirit.
WHAT YOU'LL FIND THERE Three French-filled days make up this exciting festival, so plan accordingly, as there's so much to do!
Kick off the festival on Friday 10th July with a live performance by Mathew Garwood (The Tattooed Tenor), along with artists and cabaret dancers. End the evening with an open-air cinema screening of some great French classics.
Saturday and Sunday, 11th and 12th July This festival goes ALL WEEKEND because ... vive la France! Spend the daylight hours whetting your appetite for French cuisine from as many as 50 market stalls, offering any of the following (and more):
A range of cheeses
Authentic French regional food
French Wines and Champagnes
If for some odd reason you're not into any of the food (which would be beyond bizarre), you can also check out the Artisan Market and the Flea Antique Market, selling products inspired by French "Art de Vivre" from famous boutiques such as Le Grenier.
For the enfants in attendance, there's a kids' corner with comics, candy store, and a storytelling area. Give your little ones a taste of 'barbapapa' (cotton candy).
You can also spend Saturday night enjoying tunes from two of France's top DJs, Berty McFly and Nils (you have to work off that cheese somehow).
FRENCH COOKING MASTERCLASSES Any culinary connoisseur (or wannabe expert) would be crazy to miss the French cooking masterclass tent!
Choose from 3 masterclasses and learn the true art of cooking French cuisine, or watch chef demonstrations from French, Canadian, Belgian, and Swiss chefs. You'll learn how to prepare traditional meals and desserts with fresh ingredients from the festival village market.
