This is going to be the event of the year!
Burning Man is an annual gathering which originated in the United States. In the US, the event is termed as "
a city in the desert", and here in Australia, the whole event is based on the same concept in the US.
It is a temporary city erected for the Burning Man event, which is now also run yearly in Western Australia in the town of Kulin. Blazing Swan is an annual experiment in a temporary community "
dedicated to self-expression and self-reliance", and has proven very popular. The people who go to Blazing Swan are not just "
attendees," but are active participants in every sense of the word; the people create the city and the interactions that happen during their stay, ultimately become the whole "
experience."
It will be on over the Easter long weekend and it will continue for seven days of community living.
You will need to be in "JILKIN ROCK CITY" for more than 24 hours or else it would be too difficult to take a role in the community.
So, in order to experience the "
true essence" of Blazing Swan, you will want to become part of the community.
You do not have to come for the entire week, and you are welcome to arrive early in the week and stay for just a part of this event.
[b]ART**
Art is also a huge component of this experience, and you can read more about this
here and on the general pages of this site.
[b]WHAT TO BRING ALONG**
Blazing Swan is an exercise in self-sufficiency. You have to bring all you will need to survive! Some people bring only the basics, however, water, food and shelter are imperative, and after you have everything ready for your survival, the rest is up to you.
Blazing Swan is a commerce-free event so you will need to bring ALL supplies, including food, water and tools you will need for survival in a harsh environment. No food or sundry items are sold anywhere in Jilikin Rock City, so make sure you come prepared.
If you forget something important, the best idea is to make friends with your neighbours so that they will help you out. However, if this is not possible and you really need something, Kulin is the nearest town and this is about 20 minutes from the site of Jilikin Rock City. There is not a lot of choice, however, as it is a very small rural town.
For a complete list of what to bring, check out this
link.
[b]THEME CAMPS**
Theme Camps are the interactive core of Blazing Swan, brought to you by ordinary participants. Each Theme Camp is gifted to Blazing Swan – the music, the activities, the food and drink, all of the entertainment, all of the fun and experiences are free and gifted by participants, for participants!
You can also join a Theme Camp as part of their crew as they are an interactive camp designed by the camp members with the intention of engaging participants. More information can be found in the Theme Camp section on this
site.
Theme camps are located throughout Jilikin Rock City while "
assigned placement comes after approved advanced registration". Though registration is not at all required, only registered theme camps will be stated on the city map. Those who register early get the best spots and placement on the map.
Last year, some of the Theme Camps included:
Chill Camp
The Associates
Huckleberry's Farm
Fire Tribe
High Tide
Camp Unicorn Power
And many more
[b]MUTANT VEHICLES**
To add to the fun of these 7 days, you can bring along a "Mutant Vehicle"%% which is a one-off motorised creation that bears very little, if any, resemblance to its original form, or to any standard street vehicle!
Mutant Vehicles are mostly safely modified from their base vehicle/object, or occasionally someone will make one from scratch. Mutant Vehicles may include non-standard motorised forms such as furniture, "
other non-street vehicles such as a boat or train, animals", or almost anything limited only by your imagination.
Vehicles merely stripped to the frame and engine, or vehicles which have had little changes, or temporary decorations, are not considered Mutant Vehicles. You can read more about these
here.
[b]MUSIC**
You are able to have amplified music at Jilikin Rock City as this is considered a "
favoured method of participation and self-expression" at Blazing Swan, and one that influences a large number of people. However, this music will need to be kept at a pleasant and reasonable noise level.
SOME RULES
Please go to this
site to see rules and more general information.
[b]GENERAL**
At Jilikin Rock City, you could join the "
Rainbow Tide Body Painting Ball" as a creature from the sea! Or you could get body painted at the event, and watch live body art as you all dance to "deep-sea house, under the sea!"
This is a fund-raising event for Rainbow Tribe, who is bringing its Theme Camp to Blazing Swan 2018. Proceeds will go towards buying community body paints, so that organisers can throw more fun events like this!
There will be a licensed bar available, so there is no BYO.
You will be camping at Jilikin Rock City and you will be able to drive to your camping spot, however, you should not plan to use your car during your stay. This is a serious safety issue and will be strictly enforced. No driving will be allowed without a Blazing Swan Department of Mutant Transport permit.
This is going to be a huge event and so much fun. To find out more about the event, click on this
link . Remember, book now and come prepared.
Tickets are on sale now at this
link, however, book now as the first stage is already sold out - this is a unique event and will sell quickly.
