Here is another original FREE exhibition at the innovative Museum of Brisbane (fondly referred to by local Brisbanites as MoB). Indigenous artist Dylan Mooney tells stories of survival, pride and power through his artworks. His solo exhibition "Blak Superheroes" is being held in the beautiful Dome Gallery on level 3 in Brisbane City Hall from 19 June 2021 to 18 April 2022.

In his series "Blak Superheroes", Dylan depicts First Nations' characters in dynamic comic-book style. Incorporating a combination of drawing, printmaking and street art, his work is inspired by history, culture and community stories. He is a leader in Australia in the medium of digital illustration and he creates characters who reflect the LGBTIQA community, while referencing the strength and continuation of culture.

"Blak Superheroes addresses and amplifies stories of representation, creating change that uplifts ourselves and mob. Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have had important roles through history to present day. Blak characters' representation in history has always been in the background, never the focal point, and characterised by racist stereotypes. These works reflect the resilience, innovation and empowerment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to not only survive, but to thrive in so-called Australia," Dylan said.

About Artist Dylan Mooney
Dylan Mooney is a proud Yuwi, Torres Strait Islander from Darnley Island and Australian-born South Sea Island man. He hails from the coastal city of Mackay in north Queensland. Through his art practice, he shares stories of what it is like to be an Indigenous person in modern Australia. In his various media, he captures the struggles and hardships First Nations peoples have endured, while telling stories of resilience, survival and how far Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander and South Sea Islander peoples have come.

MoB Director/ CEO Renai Grace said, "Museum of Brisbane continues to share stories and traditions of First Nations artists through this new exhibition. Blak Superheroes looks to the future and provides strength and inspiration for young people to associate their heroes with their own culture, created by a very talented young artist who is proving his career will go very far."

Emma McLean, Assistant Curator at Mob added, "Museum of Brisbane is proud to present this exhibition and to share the incredible skill of the makers involved. We also thank the artist involved in … Blak Superheroes - Dylan Mooney."
