host a number of themed markets throughout the year offering various stalls, demonstrations, informative talks and workshops in the southeastern suburb of Blackwood. Karyn and business partner Samantha started these markets at the beginning of this year, and are already seeing success in their venture. Who could have imagined that a group of ladies getting together to share craft ideas would eventually set the concept of a market in motion?
I had the privilege of being invited to come along to the Blackwood Fashion Market in August. This was their third market, preceded by the Blackwood Health & Beauty Market in June and the Blackwood Artisan Market in March. The stalls were fabulous and its atmosphere was wonderful. One particular stall, Maud's Daughter, caught my attention though with all its beautiful vintage-inspired handmade bags and purses.
The market also had a small cafe area serving up coffee, tea, cakes and a high tea. The high tea consisted of three savoury selections (sausage roll, triangle & quiche) and three sweet selections (cupcake, lemon curd tart & scone). All homemade by Karyn's son and his best mate. I particularly loved the flaky sausage roll and tangy lemon curd tart. As for their service, it could not be faulted.
There will be two more markets for the remainder of the year. The Blackwood Spring Market featuring garden produce will be held on Sunday the 22nd of October 2017. The Blackwood Christmas Market featuring Christmas gifts, food and decorations will be held on Sunday the 19th of November 2017. Both at the Blackwood Memorial Hall from 10am to 3pm. These markets support local businesses, so why not come along to support them and shop local. Admission is free. For further information, do visit their
Facebook page .
