Tucked away on the quieter side of Haymarket is a trendy haven of cakes and pastries known as , ready to satisfy those sweet tooth cravings (or does that just happen to me?). For those familiar with the popular late night Asian ice creamery, Passionflower, here is their sister store.

As you step inside, you are greeted by towering cones of macarons and glass cupboards filled with a myriad of cakes, pastries and more macarons. Reminds you of an Adriano Zumbo store, doesn't it?

To be honest, I'm always very tentative when it comes to trying 'quirky' macarons as I often find them to be lacking in flavour, with the aesthetics being their only selling point. But the flavours from Blackflower sounded so unique, I couldn't leave without trying some anyway. They had signs for flavours like 'Thai Milk Tea' and 'Cheeseburger' which I was curious to try, but unfortunately were not available that day. So I settled for the watermelon and the plum macaron.

The shells were crisp and the insides soft, yet, as expected, there was just not enough flavour. The watermelon one certainly looked appealing with its different coloured shells but the filling was almost bland, with barely a hint of watermelon. Overall, it was just not up to the same standard as macarons that I'd tried in other patisseries.

My sweet tooth still needed to be satisfied. I looked over enviously towards my companion's choice which was, in fact, called 'The Envy'. It was a green tea and black sesame layered cake, adorned with a strip of white chocolate.

I greedily dug into the layers and was instantly overwhelmed with the flavours. The green tea matcha flavour and the black sesame were so distinct yet interlaced perfectly. The textures were interesting and the white chocolate on top added a nice touch. Luckily, this one was a definite winner.

Overall, is a nice little spot if you adore or are keen to try Asian-inspired pastries and cakes. They even have things which are durian-flavoured! The macarons I had were a slight let-down but I've heard that the 'Cheeseburger' flavour is oddly fantastic.

For those who have more of a savoury tooth, they serve quiches and, according to their Facebook page, have recently introduced pizzas to the menu. You can also down your treats with coffee or some hot chocolate. The staff are very friendly and more than happy to make recommendations.

is open from 9am-7pm, and until 10pm on Thursday to Saturday.
