 The Black Cockatoo Arthouse
Want a cosy night in, but feel like doing something a little different? Then you will want to check out the Black Cockatoo Arthouse, located at 1 Park St McLaren Vale South Australia. This little nest is just the place to cosy up and enjoy a great film.

[ADVERT]A non-profit organisation, the Black Cockatoo is a volunteer run cinema, art gallery and community space. Which really doesn't describe just how unique this little venue actually is.

When you enter the building you will find a dark warm little space filled with chairs of all shapes and sizes. Big old easy chairs to smaller floor model type chairs - not a hint of anything brand new, but that's what adds to the charm of the Black Cockatoo. From experience, I can say the seats are comfy and the atmosphere is relaxing and down to earth, which of course fits well with this grass roots organization.

Seating is first come first serve in most cases and the screen is easily seen from just about every chair in the room. In old-fashioned style, your host Greg will pull the curtains aside and give you an introduction to the movie of the night.

After that you just sit back and relax enjoying a glass of house wine or any of the vegan fair trade organic food available for purchase.

Intermission will be an opportunity for more wine, chocolate or popcorn before you settle back into your seat.

No need to dress up to go out to this best kept McLaren Vale secret. Its casual and yet feels like a night out.

The BCA offers a range of movies and documentaries not otherwise seen in a "regular" cinema. It's your opportunity to not only relax in a cosy little spot, but also watch some works of art that will most definitely provoke conversation afterwards.

Upcoming movies are listed on the Black Cockatoo Arthouse website. The movie times are subject to availability, ranging from Friday to Saturday and occasionally through the week.

Bookings are encouraged as this little hot spot often sells out midweek.
