[BREAK]
If you're looking for a laidback, tasty lunch on the weekend, head over to the Oxford Tavern for their American style barbeque. Meats are sold by weight and the fiesta lasts till sold out (which we took the last lamb ribs at 1.45, so if you have a preference, you need to get in early).

The beer garden out the back is sheltered, so the downpour proved no problem for our group, and the $20 jugs of mojitos made for a festive, summer vibe in spite of the winter chill on the street.

The kids were thrilled by the bar menu of tacos and cheese burgers, but we were there to taste the barbeque so the focus was on ribs.

We went with a kilo of ribs, but grabbed the last 150 grams of the lamb ribs. The rest was a mix of the beef short ribs and the special of the pork ribs in a sweet mustard & Jack Daniels sauce. All meat comes with coleslaw and a roll. This was ample for three grown men, and we probably should have only got 600 grams for the crew.

My youngest went with the smoked quarter chicken and I went with the pulled pork burger - on a brioche style bun with slaw and barbeque sauce. This is delicious with strong flavours but very rich, so be warned. I probably should have gone easy on the tater tots while waiting!

The garden space is inviting and while our group took two tables, and lingered for a few hours, there was no pressure to move.

On Sundays, head over and enjoy some bloody Mary's and live music at the BBQ. If you're after a long, lazy weekend lunch in a relaxed atmosphere, then look no further than the Black Betty Barbeque!
