This meaty nirvana is called Black Bear BBQ and it's located in the gritty industrial heartland of Blacktown on the aptly named Forge Street. This is all part of the attraction of the Black Bear BBQ. It's not pretentious, just good honest food served up in an unpretentious setting.
Black Bear BBQ is run by 3 local bearded blokes who love meat cooked in that traditional Stars and Stripes way - low and slow. The meat literally melts in your mouth, and I suppose the modern day hipster term for it would be "craft meat."
There's no fancy pants lady like servings happening here. Just thick slices of delicious BBQ meat served with slaw, house-made pickles, crisps and a mighty fine BBQ sauce. All of the meat is cooked for 12 plus hours, and it is sliced to order. Some of the meat choices include brisket, pork belly, ribs and chicken marylands.
The barbie is fired up from 5.00am in the morning and you can enjoy a meaty roll with egg for breakfast from 6.00am. To wash it all down you can have a coffee made with beans from local Blacktown roastery, Black Drum Roasters. Lunch service kicks off at 11.00am and this is when you can order up one of the delicious boxes of meaty goodness. On different occasions, they open up on Friday nights and they also do private events too.
Boxes cost from $15.00, depending what meat you have a hankering for, and they are huge size servings! If you're a total hog and want to sample it all, you can order a Hungry Bear Box. There are also Family Feast Boxes if you have to feed your meat-loving tribe.
So get your skates on and head to the Black Bear BBQ in Blacktown very soon - your belly will be ever so grateful!
