Black and White Exhibition, Magazine Launch and Art Auction
Despite what some cynics say, I believe there's a lot to love about the arts scene in Brisbane. It's one of the most vital, supportive and exciting scenes in Australia as far as I'm concerned. Take the example of Black and White: A Pop-up Exhibition, Magazine Launch and Art Auction that's happening in Fortitude Valley on the evening of July 24th.
Presented by The Brisbane Collective and To Be Continued Magazine, the event will be host to over 20 local Brisbane artists showcasing a new range of black and white work. For those who may never have heard of them, The Brisbane Collective is a volunteer run arts community that supports emerging local artists and gives them spaces and events at which they can display and sell their work.
For this event, artists Teens On Acid, Henry Bennett, Penny Lonie, Dave Behrens, Olivia Willis, Debs Lim, Sloe Motion, Winter Of '72, Lusid Art, Kasper, Juxtafied Airbrushing, Cross Stitch Of Contempt, Jordan Wearn, Jenna Coverly, Ruby & The Fox, David Don, Jon Weber, PhilB, Jetta's Nest, Cronk & Tonic, Jeremy Eden, Travis Hendrix, Barek, Powell, and Matt Warrell Photography will have their works available for sale, with all prices commission free.
The second art auction of the evening will feature works by The Brisbane Collective's own artists. Creative Director of The Brisbane Collective and To Be Continued Magazine, Megan Starr-Thomas says, "The auction will be hosted by Danika and Mikey. Danika hosts a radio show on 4ZZZ… whilst Mikey has fronted many talented groups including Cold Hearts plus the emo band sensation Forlorn Gaze. All proceeds raised will assist in furthering our projects and keep TBCMAG in print."
Megan adds, "Our sixth issue of TBCMAG will be launched and available at this event. Featuring artists such as Henry Bennett, Lusid Art, Jenna Coverly and many more. The first 20 people through the doors will receive a limited edition pack. Also, if people arrive before 7pm, they will receive half-price entry to a live performance by Army of Champions."
Issue Two of TBCMAG
If you're over 18, it's free to enjoy five hours of art, plus live music, the exciting art auction and the launch of the sixth issue of To Be Continued (TBC) Magazine. Musical acts for the night include Cassie O'Grady and DJ Fluent JB. This event is supported by Crowbar, Stone & Wood Brewing and Red Octopus.
