From broken china to handcrafted silver jewellery
It continually amazes me the creative thought people have when designing clothes or giving old clothes a new lease of life. The ideas are simple yet I wonder why I never thought of revamping that old denim jacket or the 10-year old dress that last month went to the recycle shop. I could have made them into something I would have been happy to wear instead of standing in front of racks of antique, recycled and retro clothing at Bizarre Boutique, Tamborine Mountain in awe of what can be achieved.
Spruce up for Melbourne Cup in a dress from Bizarre Boutique
Angela Bowden owner of Bizarre Boutique has that creative vision that allows her to see pre-loved articles of clothing transfer from something old into something trendy and desirable to wear. With a Diploma in Art she has the decorative ability to display her merchandise in such a way to give the customer several different options for wearing the same garment.
Children's old denim jackets were spruced up with the addition of crocheted doilies and lace which gives a very pretty addition to a plain denim jacket. It is also a great way to use your Grandmother's doilies if they are not something you use in your home. Children's denim jackets start at $36.00.
Retro wear is not the only merchandise Bizarre Boutique has in stock. Local artists rent spaces within the shop. One such artist, Liliah Rose Jewellery produces silver jewellery from semi- precious stones, silver forks, spoons and china plates. So if the unfortunate event occurs and you break a piece from your fine china tea service, don't be disheartened, it can be retained and turned into a beautiful piece of jewellery. Dichroic Glass Jewellery from The Glass Studio is also on display for purchase and the day I was there, a special offer if you purchased one piece of jewellery, you would receive another piece free up to the same value.
On your next visit to Mt Tamborine, don't forget to drop into Bizarre Boutique to see the new and recycled, the arts and crafts from very talented local artists and beautiful jewellery as the new stock arrives daily.
