Where in North Sydney can one get a takeaway coffee for $3.00 or a dine in for $3.20? is where. This little place tucked away on Denison Street, after Subway and around the corner from Mount Street is a coffaholics delight. In saying that, the large takeaway is only $3.50! How is this man staying in business? By his service and quality is how.

Business owner of two years, Toby, prides himself in his Belaroma ground coffee beans, his prices and his reputation for making a 'mean' cup of coffee have to be tried to be believed. He opens his doors from 6am for the early risers and closes them at 4:30pm - if you're really desperate for a caffeine hit while he's cleaning up, he is lovely enough to make one up for you. Nothing is a bother in Toby land. If that isn't enough, he even has happy hour from 2pm to 3pm every day (daily being Monday to Friday) where his coffees are only $2.00.

While standing at the counter I noticed a gluten free Jaffa Cake, haha! Another sweet this week - gee, everybody must think I'm enormous. Anyway, it was very soft and smooth in texture, there was just enough orange to take away from the density of the gluten free flour and the dark chocolate that sat on the top of the cake was just the right sweetness without being too rich. It went down very well.

His coffee, I would call mother's milk, was perfect in strength and perfect in temperature. After working in North Sydney for over 6 years, I believe that for my tastes and the taste of those I venture out with, that this place is the best coffee place in North Sydney and that isn't because of his prices. Being inexpensive is a bonus to what is on offer.

Business men and women were walking in for takeaways or to order and sit in for a 'meeting' in the back where it is quiet and private. There are enough tables inside to sit at least 40 people and an outdoor, alfresco feeling of around 15 people.

The ready to be toasted sandwiches are made daily and his bacon and egg rolls are juicy enough without becoming messy. If breakfast at home isn't doable, then breakfast at BitterSweet is where to get it.

If you have a keen taste for macarons, well, these are the go, they are good. Very good in fact. I sat with my desserts on the table, glancing up at the TV screen with a newspaper from the counter, just skimming and relaxing while on my break. Perfection.
