Hidden in the basement of an office building on Adelaide Street is a cafe, restaurant and art gallery that is rapidly gathering a dedicated following. Birrunga Gallery & Dinner is open for breakfast and lunch 5 days a week and staying open late on Friday nights for an evening of entertainment, you can head in for the great food that incorporates indigenous flavours, and admire the contemporary Aboriginal artwork on display.

About the gallery

The gallery was initially founded by Robert Henderson, a Wiradjuri artist, as the Henderson Gallery in South Brisbane. That gallery went from strength to strength but had to close due to construction works at the original building. This year, they reopened in the heart of the city as Birrunga Gallery.

The gallery has always featured indigenous and outsider artworks and worked on building a community of artists and creators through its training programs, entertainment and support of a variety of artists, especially those of indigenous background. The result is one of the few galleries in Brisbane that is prepared to take risks, challenge the audience as well as finding and fostering great talent.

Along with artworks by regular and founding members of the art gallery, there will be continued exhibitions of new artworks from different artists. Also, it is a great place to find original souvenirs by indigenous artists.
