"Superb" "Colourful" "Captivating"

These are some of the words which can be used to describe the Birds of Paradise from the native rainforests of Papua New Guinea, Indonesia and Northern Australia. The Birds of Paradise Exhibition at the Melbourne Museum gives you the opportunity to find out about these exotic birds.

Over 60 bird specimens will be exhibited. Displays will take you on an a discovery trail where you will learn about the evolution of the Bird of Paradise, their amazing dancing displays, the symbolism of the birds within the tribes of Papua New Guinea and many other interesting facts. The connection between human dancing displays and rituals and those of the Bird of Paradise will also be explored.

The exhibition opens on the 23rd of November 2012 and closes on the 3rd of February 2013. The Melbourne Museum is open daily between 10am and 5pm. Entry to the exhibition is free for children and concession card holders and $10 for adults. You can find out how to get to the museum by clicking here .
