Queen's College is playing host to Birds of a Feather, a one-night only event featuring performances from celebrated poet, Anne M Carson, accomplished British harpist, Vanessa McKeand and local singer & pianist, Julian Bailey.

This evening of fine music and poetry will be held on Sunday 17th May 2015, from 5:00pm to 6:30pm and commence with Anne M Carson reciting her lyric poetry accompanied by Vanessa McKeand on harp.

A recent finalist in the 2015 Ron Pretty Prizes, Anne has performed in many local and regional venues. Her work has also been broadcast on Community Radio and Radio National and she will also be featured in an upcoming programme on 'Behind the Words' for Channel 31 TV.

In Birds of a Feather, Anne will be reading new poems and others from 'Removing the Kimono'.

Vanessa has performed all around the world on her bright blue 47 string electro-acoustic harp, aptly named The Big Blue. Originally from Britain, she also studied, performed and taught in the US and France and the Middle East. Vanessa's music interests are vast and diverse; she has performed as a concerto artist, soloist, and in chamber music recitals and also enjoys performing light music from musicals, popular opera, jazz and even some Led Zeppelin and Metallica.

In Birds of a Feather, Vanessa will also perform some solo harp pieces.

Julian Bailey graduated in 1983 from the University of Melbourne with Honours in Piano Performance, studied singing with Dame Joan Hammond, and worked for a decade as a tenor in the Victorian State Opera Chorus. He now sings with the Tudor Choristers and has remained a dedicated classical pianist. To conclude Birds of a Feather, Julian will take to the piano with renditions of several of Chopin 's sublime Nocturnes.

This event is sure to delight lovers of poetry and classical music. Come along and enjoy a glass or two and be enchanted by this artistically stimulating event.
