BioBlitz events are held all over the world and are best described as citizen science events in which the public collaborates with teams of scientists and nature groups to explore and record the life of a park and/or reserve.
From 10.30am on Saturday, 28th October 2017,
Friends of Sturt River Landcare are hosting a Bioblitz event at Oaklands Wetland and Reserve - in partnership with
Discovery Circle (a collaboration between Uni SA, Department of Environment, Water and Natural Resources and City of Marion).
In August 2014, Oaklands Wetland and Reserve held its first Bioblitz event which recorded 130 species that had made their home in a wetland, which at that stage was less than 12 months old. Species sighted and recorded included a variety of spiders, water bugs, birds, mammals, native fish, frogs, reptiles, microbats and fruitbats.
Friends of Sturt River Landcare will reward Bioblitz participants' efforts with a sausage sizzle and the opportunity to network and learn more about Oaklands Wetland and Reserve's biodiversity corridor which the Friends have been progressively planting and tending for the past four years.
As regular visitors to Oaklands Wetlands and Reserve and occasional volunteers of Friends of Sturt River Landcare, we're looking forward to attending this year's Bioblitz to discover and record even more species and share our love of nature with other like-minded people.
