Bing's Chinese Restaurant is a very affordable eating place at Grote Street, located opposite Hong Kong Asian Grocery. We started frequenting Bing's because we love their Pan Fried Pork Dumplings. The dumplings have a lovely crispy 'web' of pastry which contrasts wonderfully with the juicy pork filling. The restaurant provides soy sauce and vinegar that you can mix together to dip the dumplings in.
Spiced Hot Chilli Chicken is another one of our favourites. Although the chicken pieces are a bit small, the dried chillies and Sichuan peppercorns give a distinct zing to the dish. The sensation is best described as mouth-numbing if you are not used to spicy food. The capsicum and onion slices fried with the chicken and spices help to somewhat temper the heat from the spicy ingredients.
Bings is probably the place where you can get the cheapest Steamed Whole Fish. It only cost about $16. The flesh of the fish is tender and easy to remove from the bones. The ginger and shallot sauce that the fish is steamed in also complemented the fish nicely. It also serves the Broad Beans with Chinese Chutney. I currently like Bings best due to it having more sauce compared with that served at the other restaurants.
