What else do you do on a steamy Wednesday night in Melbourne but head out in search of ice cream? And there's something a little bit special about having to go looking. Billy Van Creamy serve up entirely hand-made preservative free gelato from an appealing truck that's currently doing the rounds in the Northern suburbs.

The lovely BVC chaps learnt their trade with some of the top gelati places around and it shows. An innocent looking creamy white peanut butter scoop just screams peanuts. Imagine taking a big spoon of pure peanut butter from the fridge and you're half way there. Another stand out is the pistachio. There's not a nut in sight, and there's certainly no crazy green colouring but it's pure, unadulterated pistachio pleasure. The lack of preservatives and general synthetic rubbish means each gelato is similar in colour but carries a secret ninja punch of flavour.

Last seen around Gertrude Street in Fitzroy, they're often hanging out with food truck friends like Mr Burger so you can quite literally make a meal of it. If you want to find them there's no use listening out for the creepy Mr Whippy tune - you'll have to cyber stalk them.
