Bangalow Main Street
The Billy Cart races have taken over the country town of Bangalow on the third Sunday in May for the past 19 years. The gently sloping nature of the street lends itself to such an exciting event. Last year, there were a record 245 entrants in 100 races. This year there are many race categories, such as traditional, homegrown, professional, novelty, mothers, tag teams, schools and celebrities, with specifications for each one. The Emergency Services race is bound to be a laugh, with the Fire department and the Police department going head to head. Rumour has it, in 2012, the Police department billy cart was clocked doing 35 kms in a 50 km zone.
Billy Carts racing
This event promises to provide good old fashioned outdoor fun, with everyone lending a helping hand to set up and dismantle the hay bales along the course for the event. So, if you plan to enter a race, then you better get building that billy cart - be sure to check the specifications on the Bangalow Billy Cart website and don't forget your helmet.
