The
2009 Brisbane Billycart Championships is coming to the
Carindale Recreation Reserve on Sunday August 23 and the call is out for Brisbane residents to go for glory.
There have been some great father-son moments building a Billy cart. Homer and Bart Simpson did it as well as Peter and Chris Griffin, all with hilarious results. Now it’s your chance to gel back the hair, strap on the speed goggles and race down the grassy hills at Carindale for the crown jewel.
Delayed due to bad weather back in May, this is a great father-son, mother-daughter, nephew-uncle, granddad-grandson event open to anyone over the age of four! Several races take place on the day with prizes for fastest bill cart, most imaginative design, best dress team, as well as winners in age categories. Those with a flair for creativity should consider entering the
Brisbane 150 Billy cart Parade for the chance to win best themed cart and team.
The always popular Mascot Race will make a triumphant return on the day with Hog’s Breath Café’s Pinky, Crazy John, Lone Pine Koala, Grove Juice’s Cedric the Orange, Brisbane Lions mascot Bernie Vegas and Birch Carroll and Coyle’s Candy Bear. If you want an idea of what the day will be like, check out
this video by Carindale Capers from 2006.
Before you strap a rocket booster to the back of your vehicle, remember that all carts will need to go through a safety check and get approved on the day. There is a stringent set of rules to follow for building a cart. Check out the
registration form for more details (ignore the May date, that was the old event) and if you need help building one, check out
Bunnings.
Don’t forget the breaks!
Anyone who doesn’t want to push their pedal to the metal can still come along and cheer on their friends and family with entertainment and food stalls available throughout the day.
