Its tagline is "Australian wildlife experience"- and it certainly lives up to it. The is located on the Bruce Highway in Townsville, and admission is $30 for adults, and $19 for children (a little exy, but definitely worth it). I visited a couple weeks ago on Boxing Day, and was surprised by how much I enjoyed it.

The park hosts a range of Australian animals, including koalas, wombats, snakes, lizards, dingoes, crocodiles, emus, wallabies, turtles, along with many different species of bird. For $99 you can feed the crocs, or for $16 get professional photos of you holding koalas, wombats, snakes, or crocs, and for free, get pictures with koalas (no cuddling involved). The lovely thing about paying for the professional photographs though, is that a certain percentage of the money goes to wildlife organisations helping out all creatures great and small.



I spent about 4 hours wandering around the park, and the facilities are fantastic- an onsite pool free to have a dip in when the North Qld heat gets too much for you, free barbecue facilities, and a small cafe where you can get hot or cold lunches, beverages, and even a beer, which makes it all the more enjoyable.

The sanctuary is covered in ducks, geese, and other random birds, but if you purchase a small bag of feed, watching the fights between the birds for who gets whose seed is highly entertaining. Kangaroos with joeys in their pouches were plentiful, and made for great photos. Hand feeding the kangaroos was also an experience that everyone can enjoy.



Overall, I'd definitely recommend visiting the Billabong Sanctuary. Whether you're a local, or from wherever Bjork's from, it's definitely worth a visit if you're interested in capturing some great snaps, and learning some cool info, about Australia's native animals.
