Clean Out Your Shed and Home of those Unwanted Bikes
Perhaps you have been meaning to clean out your shed and need a deadline. In which case look no further than the upcoming bike donation day in Bowden. Donate your old bike and know that it is going to a good home. Bicycles for Humanity are an organisation that collects pre-loved bikes and then ships them to communities in need in developing countries. The bikes are packed into shipping containers and sent to their partner charity in Namibia, the Bicycle Empowerment Network, who transports the shipping containers to Africa.
Bicycle Empowerment Centres In Namibia local people are trained in small business skills and bike mechanics. These bike skills go towards creating local Bicycle Empowerment Centres. These centres gives people access to affordable and sustainable transportation via the newly acquired bikes.

Bikes have many advantages including being able to travel further and carry bigger loads giving people better access to things like education, healthcare an economic opportunities. They can also be a springboard for small business opportunities. The Bicycle Empowerment Centre assists the local community in other ways, as any profits raised go towards local charity and healthcare projects such as assisting with the response to the Aids crisis in Namibia.
Bicycles for Humanity are having a Donation Day and are seeking mountain bikes and hybrid bikes. The date for collection is Sunday, February 21st from 10am to 12 noon @ 9 Third St, Bowden (enter off Drayton St).
