Great location, excellent facilities & a coffee van
On a caravanning holiday it is not very often that you find a caravan park that fully meets your expectations. I find they often do one or two things really well but then fall down in other areas. Sometimes it is the amenities that are not up to scratch or the location is not the best and you find yourself sleeping on what sounds like the edge of the highway.
But once in a while you get a welcome surprise when you come across a caravan park that meets or even exceeds your expectations. This happened to me recently when we booked a couple of nights at BIG4 Ballarat Goldfields Holiday Park.
Situated only minutes drive from the city centre of Ballarat, and within walking distance of Sovereign Hill, this caravan park is in a great central location.
The first thing you will notice about this caravan park is how neat everything is, from the cabins to the pool, the landscaped gardens and play area, everything is well-maintained, neat and tidy.
We stayed on a powered caravan site only a short walk to the amenities building. For me, a requirement for a pleasant caravan park stay is clean amenities, it is one thing that is always high on my list of priorities. And in this department I was very impressed. The amenities were modern and clean and included some bonus features of heated floors and background music day and night (something I miss now that we are home). There were plenty of hooks in the shower cubicles and shower curtains which really make a difference in terms of privacy and keeping your belongings in the cubicle dry. It didn't matter what time of day or night I used the amenities they were always clean.
As you would expect from a BIG4 park, children have many activities to choose from. These include a large, fully fenced playground area plus an indoor play room for the under 5's. During the Victorian school holidays the park also runs a free Kids Club throughout the day.
Other facilities to keep the kids amused are an inflatable jumping pillow, pedal karts (available for an extra fee) half size tennis court, arcade games room, outdoor chess set and a solar heated swimming pool.
But BIG4 Ballarat Goldfields also recognise that it is important to keep the adults happy too. In the camp kitchen there is a full sized oven, fridge, microwave, kettle, BBQ's , sink and a TV. There are tables and chairs both indoors and out.
Anyone for chess? The chess board is situated near the outdoor seating area of the camp kitchen.
And for those who require a morning coffee there is a coffee van on site - hallelujah! Between 8am and 10am you can stroll down near the jumping pillow to order your morning cap or latte. They also serve hot chocolates and milkshakes. The coffee van is a winner for me.
Coffee within walking distance is always a winner to me
The staff at BIG4 Ballarat Goldfields were very helpful and were able to book us in to another BIG 4 van park at our next destination which we found very handy.
BIG4 Ballarat Goldfields Holiday Park is family owned and operated, It is part of the Watts Holiday Parks group and a member of BIG4 Holiday Parks, To check availability and rates click here or you can call 1800 632 237.
We enjoyed our stay here and would definitely recommend this park to others.
My husband and I have stayed in many caravan parks around Australia and are members of Big 4, which we have always been pleased with. Howver this one comes up trumps - a coffee van, yes please. And walking distance to SovereignHill is a huge plus. Thanks for the article. We will be staying there next time we visit.
