While wasting time wandering around and waiting for the autumn Forge to open up, as we arrived too early, we stumbled upon Big River Distilling Co. The distilling company is run by Clyde Morton, who has a post-doctorate in nuclear physics, and his business and life partner Susan.

Here, Clyde and Susan in the industrial area of Fyshwick create artisan spirits of uncompromising quality using ingredients from not only Australia and but also from afar. Currently, they create a Canberra Dry Gin, a Cinn Gin and a 3 grains flavoured vodka.
At the Big River Distillery door, there are the three spirts available to taste as well as a couple of cocktails available to purchase. On this visit, I was initially drawn to the vodka cocktail on offer but my partner saw the gin cocktail and so we decided to go with that one.
I'm glad I did as the cocktail and the gin was amazing, I was also surprised they were able to get that many flavours into the gin. The gin they used in the cocktail was Cinn Gin, which is made using cinnamon, the spices clove, nutmeg and star anise. Each of elements are distilled individually and then added back to the juniper base to create an amazing gin!
