Big Picnic - Roma Street Parkland

On many an occasion when I am walking back from town, I choose to go through Roma St Parklands. I know the park well but I am always looking for the new elements - the new plantings, the different colours, a novel or new work of art. And so it was that the last time I passed through, the colours were a little silvery and shiny to reflect the puddles of rainwater and the buildings nearby.

Many hundreds of volunteers and professionals have offered their hours and services to make the park what it is today and as you walk into it, you might miss this imposing wall where some of them are remembered for their service.



The colours are always special and vary with the seasons. I loved the intensity of these ginger flowers and the silver top which made a lovely resting place for a duck.




To celebrate turning 20 years, Roma Street Parkland is throwing a weekend-long Big Picnic with live music and food trucks!

When: Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 April
Time: 10am – 4pm daily
Where: Celebration Lawn, Roma Street Parkland
