The perfect place for a lively Italian feast
Italians are known to love hosting festive family get togethers with plenty of food, wine, laughter and fun. And this is exactly what you will find at Big John's Italian Seafood Restaurant.
Unapologetically loud and lively, Big John's is not somewhere you can have a quiet or romantic dinner for two. It is more suited to a casual family get together or a night out with friends where you can enjoy the relaxed and friendly atmosphere and generous helpings of classic Italian dishes.
Enjoy an Italian feast at Big John's
Located on Rocky Point Rd in Sans Souci, Big Johns has been around since the late 1980's and now comprises a two level restaurant with Side Bar and it is fully licensed.
We chose Big Johns as the location for a family birthday dinner recently. We were seated in the upstairs restaurant and were grateful for the comfort of the air-conditioning as the temperature outside was still quite warm.
The menu is extensive and includes all of your favourite Italian dishes - pizza, pasta, salads, veal, chicken, lamb and rib dishes as well as the biggest seafood platters you could ever imagine. To see the full menu click here.
For starters we chose a serving of bruschetta and a garlic pizza for the table to share. It didn't take long for the entrees to arrive.
There was plenty of bruschetta for everyone and the garlic pizza was also enjoyed by all.
Our table ordered a variety of main meals including a Caesar Salad, Pollo Avocado, Scallopini Parmigiana, Hawaiian Pizza and Lamb Shanks.
The Caesar Salad was the first main meal to arrive and we thought there must be some mistake. Surely this large dinner plate piled high with salad must be a share plate for another table and not a single meal? But our waitress assured us with a smile that it was for us and was only a single serving.
This is definitely the biggest Caesar Salad I have ever seen
The size of the salad was definitely a taste of things to come. As meal after meal arrived they were all just as generous in their portion sizes. We actually had trouble fitting all of the meals on to our table.
My meal, the Pollo Avocado was served with salad, vegetables, a potato croquet and a whole avocado sitting atop the chicken which had been cooked in a white wine and cream sauce. The meal was quite nice but was much too large to finish.
Our party did our best trying to finish our meals but I must declare there was quite a bit of food left over. There was no way we could even contemplate the dessert menu and we were so full we couldn't even fit in a slice of birthday cake for our birthday celebration.
We did enjoy our dinner at Big John's. The only small issue we had was that there is no kids menu. However it is possible to order small sized pizzas and small servings of pasta for children.
