I'm a freelance writer who lives on the Bellarine Peninsula. I enjoy finding new things to see and do in the beautiful area that I live in. I'm also a booklover- see my reviews at acomfychair.com/profile/52/
When I was a child, I remember watching the news around Easter time, when, for a fluff story, they'd show hundreds of kids running onto an oval that was covered in little solid Easter eggs. I remember asking my parents why I couldn't go and join these lucky kids as they searched through the grass for little balls of chocolate goodness (filling their baskets with as much as they could find and carry), and was always told the same thing - they're in Melbourne, and it's too far to go for a few Easter eggs. To their credit, my parents dealt with my disappointment by staging elaborate egg hunts throughout the house for me and my brothers. But, despite this, I always wished that I could be part of a huge quest to uncover as many little chocolate eggs as I could against unfamiliar competitors.
I never got my chance to join a big Easter egg hunt, and unfortunately, I'd probably be considered too old to get away with it now if I did rock up to one. But luckily for those who can get away with it, it is no longer necessary to travel to Melbourne to participate. On Friday 29 March - Good Friday - the Leopold Community Bank Branch of the Bendigo Bank will be holding their annual Big Easter Egg Hunt. For a gold coin donation, children can register to participate in the hunt, which will be run in age groups from 10am until 11.20am.
Held at Leopold Football Oval in Melaluka Road, the day won't just be about hunting for Easter eggs - from 9am, there will be plenty of activities to keep everyone entertained. As well as jumping castles, face painting and train rides for the younger kids, there will also be handball competitions, hair braiding and a variety of other activities to get involved in. There will also be performances from children's group The Mik Maks, entertainment from Dan the Magic Man, and the chance to win plenty of fantastic prizes (including a brand new bike) in a raffle.
The event will be held at the Leopold Football Oval in Melaluka Road
All money raised will go directly to the Good Friday Appeal for The Royal Children's Hospital, so make use of the public holiday and get down to Leopold for the opportunity to find some eggs, have some fun, and raise some money for a worthwhile cause.
There will be hundreds of little Easter eggs scattered all over the oval for the kids to find
