We went on the Duck Boat tour last weekend, commencing at Victor Harbor to Granite Island Causeway, cruising past Seal Island all the way to Horse Shoe Bay, and then down past Wright Island and Waitpinga Cliffs.

The tour was truly exhilarating and the view of Australia from the ocean is something that you will never experience on land, no matter how many times you go to the beach!

In terms of seeing whales and dolphins - we were a little disappointed. There was a report of a whale, which the boat skipper followed - but we ran into white fog, which made visibility difficult.

Down at Waitipinga Cliffs, we did see dolphins playing in the distance. However, you had to be fleet of eye to see them properly, and although we tried very hard, we couldn't get a good image in the camera. The water seemed very dark, and even reflected some strange colours!

When we arrived back at the Victor Harbor to Granite Island Causeway, we passed a whale that had revealed itself to visitors on the far side of Granite Island. However, our time on the boat is up and we could not chase it.

Aside from the slight frustration of dealing with reality as the marine animals are free and not sitting in a zoo waiting for us - I enjoyed the tour and felt it was something that would never grow old. The boat would likely take slightly different routes according to weather conditions and reports of sightings - so no two tours would be the same.
