The beauty of The Big Design Market is that it delivers a one-stop Christmas shopping experience to an audience who value original, ethically designed, quality products. Shoppers can connect directly with the designers and makers featuring at the market, take part in creative workshops, keep their children entertained with FREE activities, and enjoy excellent food and drink, all in an iconic setting.

The Big Design Market offers a curation of the best local and international design and offers a diverse range high-quality products, including homewares, fashion, beauty care products, furniture, stationery, tech items and kids' products. Discover the best local creative talent, as well as indigenous artists from the Kimberley region in the Northern Territory, and new designers from Japan and China.

The Big Design Market consistently delivers dependability, diversity, and excitement to its visitors every year by featuring new independent creatives alongside established designers. It's these stallholders' impressive approaches to design, immaculate product presentation, and their commitment to ethical business practices that really makes The Big Design Market Australia's most anticipated and largest independent designer shopping weekend.

Inspiring Art Installations and Creative Workshops

One of the distinctive qualities of The Big Design Market is an active support of the arts by inviting local, independent creatives to be part of the event itself.

Following the wonderful work of guest artist Benja Harney of Paperform in 2016, this year, rising star, designer and illustrator Pete Cromer has been commissioned to create an awe-inspiring floral installation using his distinct and vibrant collage style. Towering over 5 metres high, in gigantic golden vases, Pete's works are set to stun and delight visitors to The Big Design Market.

Other artist highlights include industrial designer Jem Selig Freeman and sculptor Laura Woodward of Like Butter, who will create bespoke tables and chairs for the food area and an 'outback'-inspired kids play area by Min Pin's Penny Ferguson in collaboration with Togetherness Design's Esther Sandler and independent textile designer Tara Whalley.

Creative workshops hosted by Sydney and Melbourne dreamers have become some of the most anticipated highlights of The Big Design Market, and once again the team have delivered an inspired line-up of artists and designers. Visitors can customise a pair of Japanese ryokan slippers with cute designs in felt with Cat Rabbit; Abbey Rich will teach participants how to block print a set of pillowcases to take home; renowned illustrator Sandra Eterovic will share her creative process, knowledge, and insights in a 'Portrait Drawing' workshop and The Plant Society will host indoor plant care workshops.

Workshop tickets will be available to purchase online from 9 November 2017.

    Delicious Food & Drink

Shoppers love to eat and drink, which is why The Big Design Market invites everyone to enjoy delicious gourmet food offerings, craft beer, wine and coffee from local culinary masters. The exciting line-up features Earl Canteen with their new Wholebowls, Moo Brew, Misschu, ST. ALi coffee, All Day Donuts and Messina Gelato, along with newcomers Candied Bakery, 5 & Dime Bagel, Mork Chocolate and Ace Cookies.

    Cocktails by Starward Whisky

Shoppers are also in for a special treat with the launch of the Melbourne event's new upstairs Balcony Bar, nestled beneath the magnificent Royal Exhibition Building dome. The Balcony Bar will be fitted out with custom furniture by Like Butter, while featuring Tasmanian brewery Moo Brew based at MONA, Faire Ferments, Merricks General Wine Store serving local Victorian wines, Harper & Blohm cheese platters, and Starward Whisky, who are going to serve their world-class single malt and cocktails.

    Sweet treats by LuxBite

The Tea Lounge and Tasting Room in Melbourne promises specialty teas, pastries, macarons and hot chocolate for an indulgent morning or afternoon tea. Tastings and goods to take home include Love Tea, Luxbite, Mork Chocolate, Pana Chocolate and Mount Zero olives.

Kids activities hosted by Melbourne designers

    FREE Kids Activities

And for the kids, talented artist Penny Ferguson of Min Pin will return alongside bright young stars Esther Sandler of Togetherness Design and textile designer Tara Whalley to create a kids play area with an Australian outback theme for both cities. Activities are FREE and will offer kids a chance to play and create all day with a fun cardboard cut-out photo booth, a large printed mural designed by the girls and kids art activities where they can create a wearable Gum Leaf Friend or Make a Moveable Paper Creature.
