Though it evokes Austin Powers, this mob's fair dinkum. Here's some great FREE entertainment, courtesy of MoJO (Mordialloc Jazz Orchestra).
End of summer's nigh. Pleasant evenings, on shaky ground. Not much we can do, besides relinquish to knitted skivvies. Um...hang on, hang on. No. No. As a devout beachgoer, will not go silently into the night. Will not vanish without a fight. We're gonna live on. Gonna survive! Gonna...quit trumpeting...cos I'm totally off topic.
Before the sultry sun migrates to the antipodes forever (excluding next Summer), why not make the most of it. And what better way, than jazz by the bay. Every Saturday, this entire month, MoJO & Co will be gracing the airwaves with these soirées - as this year's 'Big Band Sunsets Festival' takes stage.
MoJO, main contributors/organizers of the concert series, is community-run. But much unlike other grassroots ensembles, offering training - to whoever fronts up. Yes, MoJO's doors, open to all (if you're game). Warm, welcoming spirit, reflected by it's broad mix of members. And much unlike other bands, MoJO's ~ 100 years old. Testament to it's enduring appeal and generous local sponsorship.
MoJO cover classic swing & iconic orchestraic. Music from greats: Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Glenn Miller, Louis Armstrong, to name a few. But what's entertainment without fun? And with hip-shaking tunes, bright audience interaction, you got it, in spades. Just a couple of reasons behind their popularity & towering support.
With an impressive lineup, MoJO ain't the only cool cats in town. Reading the weekly schedule (abbreviated below), dance lessons even crammed in. Followed by the chance to strut your stuff. But one thing they've kept secret (till now) this week's guest: Dr Karl Kennedy from Neighbours! 8pm! 6th Feb! That's right. With the assistance of MoJO, Alan Fletcher will be absconding from Ramsay St to serenade you.
So bring chairs, nibblies, dance shoes. Cos this shindy'll be a firecracker.
