[SECTION]18th Biennale Contemporary Art Exhibitions 2012[/SECTION]

Australia's largest visual arts events showing in Sydney.

What came first, the chicken or the egg? Art or language?

So, did art arrive before or after man gained language?
Hmmm, something to ponder and pose how and why did art begin in the first place.

Since the dawn of time, man communicated and expressed his emotions through 'Art', beginning with cave and rock paintings, sculptures and petroglyphs, decorated his body with paint and sea shells.

Art is creative and interpretive, subjective and personal, evoking conversations and debate and it stimulates an individual's thoughts, beliefs, emotions, or ideas through the senses. It can tell stories or simply express an aesthetic truth or feeling. It now crosses many mediums in our current society.

I don't particularly understand or 'get' some contemporary art, especially when you see 3 blobs of paint on a single sheet of paper, yet I can simply appreciate its originality, thought and effort that has gone into producing and expressing an art form.

This winter, open your mind and explore Australia's largest contemporary visual arts exhibition by attending Sydney's 18th Biennale of Sydney – All our Relations in various venues across Sydney for 12 glorious weeks.
