Superposition: Equilibrium and Engagement

Superposition - Equilibrium and Engagement comes together under the Artistic direction of Mami Kataoka. Through Mami's eyes, an examination of our existence is formulated. Looking at "the world today by borrowing the word 'superposition', the quantum mechanical term that refers to an overlapping situation. Microscopic substances like electrons are said to be dualistic in nature: they paradoxically exist in the form of waves and granular particles simultaneously. The state of superposition lies across all conceptual levels: from different climates and cultures to views of nature and the cosmic orders, conceptions of Mother Earth and interpretations of land ownership, readings of human history and conditions, the history of modern and contemporary art and the meaning of abstractions."

This is the 21st Biennale of Sydney 2018 upon us now. Having already commenced on 16th March and giving us 3 months of incredible art until 11 June 2018. There are over 70 local, national and international artists, art collaborations and art cooperatives from 35 different nations of the world presenting their work, across seven awesome iconic Sydney locations.

Sydney sits on the picturesque harbour and is renown for the picturesque panoramic views. The locations for the 21st Sydney Biennale could not be any better. Being located across the city, from the Art Gallery of New South Wales, to Artspace and Carriageworks, Cockatoo Island, the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia, the still stunning Sydney Opera House and the 4A Centre for Contemporary Asian Art.

Artwork for the Sydney Biennale is commissioned works collated by the chosen Artistic Director and bring to our shores some of the most in-demand artists and artworks of the contemporary era. Bringing these artists together under the conceptual title of Supposition. Creating a state of "'equilibrium', while delving into the workings of individual phenomena, considering the equivalence of these opposing notions through the lens of 'engagement'."
