Swan Valley is nearby, handy to get to and a regular Sunday drive. Margaret River is a gorgeous weekend away, a classy hen destination or a romantic escape. These are the two most obvious choices when deciding on a wine region to visit or wine tour to try, but there is a new valley to explore and love. Bickley Valley is the lesser known wine region south of the river 35 minutes from CBD.



For a recent girls day out event, we decided to book a tour to the Bickley Valley. Admittedly not many could identify where the area is but everyone was equally excited. We booked the Bickley Valley Day Tour- Wine, Cider and Food with Explore Tours Perth, it is $119 per person for a 7-8 hour day. We had a very helpful tour guide, Peter and his assistant Carola, who took us safely out to Bickley Valley in a nearly new plush tour bus.

The first stop was Fairbrossen; the owner of the estate led our tasting and kept our attention, explaining how Fairbrossen only produce organic and preservative free wine. We enjoyed a cheese platter which was devoured by all. The second stop was Due Jolly Winery; this was an intimate tasting session with some humour, maybe this is where the name stems from as we learnt the translation in English is 'Two Jokers'. The third stop of the day, in my personal opinion, was the star of the day at Core Cider house.

As our group was on the larger side we had a table set up in the cellar shed for lunch, and what a lunch it was. We were each given a 5 glass platter of ciders to try including directions on what order to taste them in. Lunch was delicious and filling, we were sceptical on portion sizes before arriving at the cider house but all doubts were cast aside as platters kept arriving at the table.


For the last stop of the day, we visited Myattsfield Vineyard, a vineyard formed on Spanish inspiration. The tasting was informative and for those that weren't partial to anymore wine for the day were given the choice of wine sorbets which was a lovely touch.

The Explore Tours Perth Bickley Valley Food, Wine and Cider tour is a well-planned day out for any occasion or during any season. A day trip to introduce newbies to the Bickley Valley is highly recommended.
