Melbourne's best place to play?
Luckily this corker is right on my doorstep, I can't recommend it enough. We have spent hours here and will no doubt spend hours more as my son grows.

Bicentennial Park Chelsea
Very popular slides!

It's perfect for so many ages from toddlers through to more active and adventurous bigger boys and girls.

It also caters for visiting mum's and dad's too with several BBQ areas, lots of shaded areas, well maintained and designed surroundings and it's fully fenced in. There is also a fenced area with newly installed gym equipment.

Chelsea Express Train - All Aboard!

The playground itself is at one end of a green and leafy reserve so if you want to run off some steam, have a kick about or fly a kite there is so much open space. There is also a dog park adjacent to the park if you need to walk/train the dogs.

Bicentennial Park Chelsea
Rock the boat!

It is on the Carrum to Mordialloc bike track, so a perfect stop off point for a picnic if you're having an afternoon on the bikes. It's a perfect place to meet for family gatherings, mother's groups and play dates.

A quick overview includes the following equipment
6 slides suitable for different ages and temperaments
Chelsea Express Train great for pretend play
Birds Nest or basket swing
Variety swing
Two sets of swings for different ages
Smurf themed huts with one music room
A good sized sand pit area with digger
Plenty of picnic tables, some undercover
3 BBQ areas
Plenty of parking
Newly built toilet facilities
Soccer and football area
Gym equipment for the over 12's
Skate park

Bicentennial Park Chelsea
Beautifully designed grounds

Nothing is ever perfect though and one of the park's main drawbacks is its popularity. Weekends can be busy, busy, busy! People have been seen claiming spots for birthday parties as early as 7am.

Coffee and refreshments are also a few minutes away by car which is not necessarily a bad thing but I'm a coffee fan. There is an ice cream van that does turn up regularly though on weekends.
This park is certainly worth a visit, it's lovely seeing it utilised by families through the year, being visited by school groups, enjoyed by those exercising in the fresh air and events being held there by various groups.

It can be found on the corner of Scotch Parade and Thames Promenade in Chelsea. It's also only a 5-10 minute walk from Chelsea train Station on the Frankston line for anyone heading there by train.

I hope you enjoy it.

What a fantastic playground for kids.. This was a "must visit" park on our way home to Altona from Wilsons Prom on Australia Day. My girls were absolutely spoiled for choice, they didn't know where to start at first... We were also impressed with the many picnic spots available - what a great day out for families..

I spent hours and hours here as a child in the 80's and now I get to take my son there and spend hours and hours there. This place just gets better and better. My son especially loves the train and music room.
