Most people have seen longboarders in and around the city doing what they do best: longboarding. But fewer people know that there is an actual Brisbane Freestyle Longboarding organisation that is holding a fundraising event for charity, and you are invited.

The organisation, also known as BFL, is an organisation of people passionate about longboarding, and who recently became well-known after their successful Longboarding for Flood Relief even which attracted over 100 people and was endorsed by several sponsors, including the local government. For those are not familiar with the term 'longboarding' – it's kind of like skateboarding except with a longer boarding, hence the name. The organisation is run more like a social group, which is constantly growing and open to all passionate longboarders to join.

There are also different types of longboarding, including downhill, commute, and dancing (in addition to freestyle). Often, longboarders combine one or two of the aforementioned styles to complement their style of longboarding. Unlike skating, where it is easy to get wounds and broken bones, longboarding has the big smooth riding, high speeds and flowing curves to be like snowboarding on wheels.

Their most recent upcoming event is the Charity Event, which will be held in support of brain cancer research and helmet safety awareness. The event will be full of longboarding competitions, skate jams, and even giveaways and prizes to be won. Those who wish to attend but can't longboard can still be in the running to win some great goodies to take home. In addition, there will be plenty of "food, drink and music to keep everyone happy".

For those who wish to participate in the longboarding competition, registration is just $10, and includes entry into the prize draw. Rego can be done at the gate or online via the website. 100% of profits go towards the Brain Foundation, to further brain cancer research.
