Event:
Turn Your Sandy Backyard Into A Lush Productive Garden
Once upon a time every home had a garden. Not just the tiny patch of sparsely-planted vegetation that often passes for a garden these days, but a real garden full of colourful flowers, organic vegetables, some fruit trees and perhaps even a few chooks. More than just a casual interest or cool hobby, the cultivation of such gardens were often a matter of survival for people when times were tough. In today's fast-paced supermarket-dominated society, however, lush productive home gardens are a relic of the past - a luxury that few of us have the time or the knowledge to cultivate. Fortunately for folks living in Perth and the Wheatbelt, this October and November the Beyond Gardens team will be on tour, holding workshops that demonstrate the principles of water-wise gardening to residents - how to transform our notoriously sandy soil into a lush fertile backyard paradise.

The winner of the 2012 Western Australian Environment Awards, the Beyond Gardens team have now delivered over 1000 seminars and events around the state, teaching people in both Perth and regional areas how to live a more environmentally sustainable lifestyle. Consisting of some of Western Australia's most accomplished consultants, botanists, landscapers, environmental scientists, bush food advocates and others, the team is dedicated to raising public awareness about saving our precious water supplies through water-wise gardening tips, techniques and other information. Best of all, their workshops are all totally free so everyone can afford to attend.
