If the children suffer from a serious case of boredom after school, the may be the perfect cure for both parents and kids. This government initiative is a free after school healthy living program for children aged 7 to 13 years old that runs over 10 weeks throughout term 4 in various recreational and community centres and venues all across the Perth metropolitan region. The sessions are 2 hours long and are held twice a week after school during the school term.

Funded by the Department of Health, this fun and interactive lifestyle program builds confidence and encourages children to lead fitter, healthier and happier lifestyles through education and participation. Since its inception in 2007, more than 5,000 families have participated in the across Australia.

The benefits of the program are manifold, as it focuses on helping kids and their families adopt a long lasting healthy lifestyle by educating about nutrition, eating habits, fitness, teamwork and overall health through a range of team building workshops, games, activities, practical demonstrations and discussions. The two hour sessions are broken down into interactive discussions and activities about nutrition and healthy eating choices in the first hour, followed by physical games and activities in the second hour to encourage physical activity for children. During this hour, parents and carers engage in a group discussion with a leader to cover a variety of topics.

The is led by qualified health professionals, ensuring that participants will have fun, learn new skills and practice leading a healthier approach to living. Children can get support and advice about self esteem, weight, goals, role models, problems solving and personal improvement in a supportive environment.

The is free for eligible families in Western Australia and registration can occur any time during the school term. The various locations are determined by local program staff and are based on demand and availability, so families are encouraged to apply and express their interest. Further information and details, as well as registrations, can be made by calling 1300 822 953 or by visiting the official website .
