Follow the Christmas Star to Brighton. You certainly don't have to be religious to bring your kids along to this Christmas event.
Children should have some concept of the historical and cultural significance behind Christmas. It is not just about getting and giving (which for kids comes mainly in that order) it is about " long time ago in Bethlehem or so the Holy Bible says when Mary's boy child Jesus Christ was born on Christmas Day."
On Saturday December the 7th the Brighton church community will be holding their 16th annual interactive nativity event which is about showing young people how the nativity events unfolded thousands of years ago.
There is a set which families can move through. It has an easy to understand booklet guide for kids, which they can keep.
At the end children can dress up as characters from the nativity story and have their photos taken in the stable. These make for wonderful Christmas cards to send to family and friends.
Children also have a simple Christmas story in booklet form that they can share with their families. And because of their involvement they come to cultural appreciation of the famous story.
There is also a craft table, where children can make Christmas decorations, napkin rings and an angel.
There are lots of other things on offer such as a prayer tree, farm animals, carols and live music a sausage sizzle and cake stall.
This is really simple, warm, and hearteningly old-fashioned way to appreciate the meaning behind Christmas before the commercialisation of Christmas comes crashing down on us like a tsunami.
