I am always looking out for new experiences, wherever I may find myself.

Everyone knows about Taronga Zoo, and most people have probably heard about it's sister zoo, Taronga Western Plains Zoo, out in Dubbo. But New South Wales has a lot more zoos than just these two. There's Mogo Zoo and Shoalhaven Zoo, down on the south coast, Symbio Wildlife Park, just south of Sydney, and others.

I've visited three of these zoos and have listed my opinions below. But I'm interested to hear, which one is your favourite?

Taronga Zoo
Not only does Taronga Zoo have the biggest variety of animals, it also has a beautiful setting, being located right on Sydney harbour. It's got the ever popular chimps, the seals, the giraffes, bears and tigers, the elephants, Australian animals and more. There are plenty of shows, feedings and special events (like evening concerts). Behind the scenes, the zoo does a lot of conversation and breeding too. It's the first zoo most people in Sydney probably ever visit and for me it set a pretty high standard that I don't think has been matched.

Taronga Western Plains Zoo
Taronga Western Plains Zoo, popularly known as Dubbo Zoo, also has a great setting, but this time it's because of the space that the rural locality has allowed the animals to enjoy (which also means you need to drive or cycle around the large space). There's not as many different animals here, but there are plenty of unique ones, like the Przewalski's Horses, as well as the more typical hippos, tigers, rhinos, monkeys, giraffes and more.

The talks at Taronga Western Plains Zoo are great

Mogo Zoo
Mogo Zoo is privately run zoo located just south of Batemans Bay. It can't compete with the Taronga pair in terms of its size and variety, but it does have a very interesting assortment of animals that's always getting bigger. When I visited, the highlight was the big cats, but there's also giraffes, red pandas, gorillas and all sorts of monkeys.

I haven't been to any of the other zoos in New South Wales and also haven't included attractions with a more specific focus, like the Australian Reptile Park. Have you visited any of these? How did you like them?

Whilst these Zoos mentioned are all great, you haven't mentioned the very best Zoo in NSW! Go and experience Altina Wildlife park at Darlington point,NSW. Only an hour's plane ride or 6 hours car ride from Sydney, heading into South West NSW. Not only can you ride around on the back of a horse and cart(something no other zoo offers) but you will see animals that you can't see in any other NSW Zoo. Additionally this Zoo now has now taken over from all other NSW zoo's has having the best and most successful animal breeding program of all NSW Zoos.

For a small private Zoo ,Mogo is terrific and will add to your experience of exploring the south coast of NSW. Well worth a visit
