Three of the best wineries in the Adelaide Hills
The Adelaide Hills wine region has more than 60 wineries producing cool climate, award winning wines in clean, green surroundings.

It can be very hard to narrow down just a few to visit in a day as they all have something special to offer. For a brief snapshot to show overseas and interstate visitors what this region is renowned for, these three are sure to encapsulate the Adelaide Hills wines, tasting plates, views and experiences.

1. Artwine, Bird in Hand Road, Woodside.

Specialising in lighter style European varieties of wines the spectacular cellar door is light and bright with full-length glass walls opening up to the surrounding vineyard and overlooking rolling green hills.

As the name suggests, there is also an emphasis on art at the cellar door, with artwork by South Australian artist Jen Prior on display and a very novel way to find the cellar door… just follow the giant coloured pencils.

2. Bird in Hand, Pfeiffer Road, Woodside

Driving past the vines towards the cellar door, you're first hit with the sight of the towering silos overlooking the buildings that house the tasting room, gallery restaurant, barrel hall and the courtyard.

The wines produced here are internationally acclaimed and have won many awards across the varieties. The courtyard has another stunning view over the landscape and is dotted with steel sculptures and a stunning mural wall. A popular place for groups to indulge in platters and wines in the courtyard.

3. Pike and Joyce, Mawson Road, Lenswood

'Wow' will be the first words that pass your lips when you take in the breathtaking views laid out before you at this winery.

The winding roads through apple orchard country deliver you to the back of the cellar door, belying what awaits you as you step inside the restaurant or tasting room.

This is the winery where you'll want to stop, taste the varieties on offer, choose your favourite bottle or two and pick a table in the sun to enjoy it all, with a platter of local foods. The views over vineyards, apple orchards and into the distance are stunning and so picturesque it will be hard to draw yourself away.

What happened to our export quality apple orchards in Lenswood?
Are they still there? I don't mean the Govt. research one.
They wasted resources there.
