Let's face it; at some point during the day, we all waste some time on the internet. We are all probably here now because we have something else we could be doing and instead we are procrastinating here. If you don't want to enter one of the many social networking sites, the choices of where to go may seem a bit limiting and may even make you want to go back to work. Rather than doing anything productive, why not check out these websites for an entertaining and enjoyable procrastination period?
One of the first websites you should check out is 9gag.
This very popular and rapidly growing website is a very addictive site to stumble upon. As their motto says, this website is Just for Fun. It has been described several times as soul-stealing: not because it is evil, or dangerous, but simply because after you go there once, you will return again and again.
Called 9gag because there are literally 9 gags per page, this website offers more than entertainment; every now and again it offers a little font of knowledge. It may not always be information you can use daily, but it is still interesting stuff to know. What's more is, this website gives us a little insight into the human psyche, and if you have found yourself doing some strange things and wondered if you are the only one out there doing such things, wonder no more.
9gag makes you feel as though you are not strange (or special); you realise there are people out there just like you. It isn't all serious though; there are song and movie parodies, comic strips and other popular internet parodies that are about to be brought down a peg or two.
Each little submission is a tiny piece of comedy in its own right. There is nothing quite like 9gag to cheer you up, make you laugh and really waste your time in the best possible way. On this and many other websites similar, you may come across what are known as memes (pronounced like 'cream'). It's a bit hard to explain, however they are sort of like how you may feel or react if you were in the situation depicted yourself.
An example of a meme- entitled Forever Alone Guy
Similar to 9gag, I Raff I Ruse is a website for comedy. The idea behind the title is simple: if you laugh out loud, you lose the game. These are also little bits of comedy, which are not relevant to anything in particular, but still funny. Sometimes they are situational; sometimes they are cute little animals that make you smile. With a new picture uploaded every few hours, and thousands of old ones to peruse, this website will help you waste away the hours happily.
As any owner of a smart phone will tell you, the auto correct function for text messages can be a blessing and a curse. There are so many failures thanks to autocorrect that there is even a website dedicated to this pressing issue - Damn You AutoCorrect.
These submissions will make you laugh out loud and then maybe question the legitimacy of them. Other times you may find yourself asking, if they make so many mistakes then why don't they just turn the autocorrect function off? Nevertheless, if they did so there wouldn't be a website, and then we may actually have to do some work. So take an hour or two and spend some time here. Some may be real, some may be made up, but they are all funny, and definitely worth a look.
The title of this one - F My Life - says it all really. All of the submissions on this website are (generally) one sentence to sum up a bad day. They are funny for the reader, while generally extremely embarrassing for the submitter. At least with this website, if you are having a hard or bad day, coming to fmylife for even a minute will make your day seem so much better. With a voting page to let the submitter know whether their life sucks or if they deserve it, makes the website even more addictive than ever.
One of the biggest websites that offer memes, demotivation, and procrastination, I Can Has Cheeszburger is a combination of over fifty different types of websites. They all contain photos and videos of cute animals, strange photographs parodies and even odd historical photographs. This website was originally mainly for pictures of dogs and cats with captions that were badly spelt (because animals can't spell) but it has evolved into a community of time wasting websites that has something for everyone. For fans of Pokémon out there, there is even a page dedicated to them. If you like to laugh at other people's failures (and don't pretend that you don't) then check out one of the many Fail Blogs - people doing or saying stupid things. Some realise it, others don't. Some fake their stupidity for the laughs.
Everyone loves a good distraction, and the next time you find yourself working too hard, instead of checking out a social network, try glancing at one of these websites. That is of course, if you don't want to go to Weekend Notes - there is always something to read on that website. I hear it is a great place to go. They are fun, interesting and they will help distract you from any important jobs you should get done.
Absolutely brilliant. Thats what Im doing today. No matter how hard I try to sit and concerntrate, I seem to be wandering around the web. I know all the work I have to do is simple. Yet sites like these and youtube can keep me distracted for hours on end. Thanks for more distractions to add to my life.
