You know what they say Melbourne! "If you can't beat 'em, join 'em!" Let's rug up and rock winter for all it's worth, shall we?

Rug up and head down to the Docklands for their annual free fireworks in July at HarbourTown.

Have you ever painted your own pottery or ceramics? Get over to All Fired Up in Hampton, or Glaze it! in Elsternwick and get your creative juices flowing. No artistic skills required! Both studios have adult booking times available too; it's not just for kids' crafts. Glaze it! has a Mother's Day special of no studio fees (usually $7 per person) on Mother's Day (Sunday, 11 May).

Fireplaces are the best way to warm up in winter. Discover the best restaurants in Melbourne with fireplaces. One of my personal favourites is the Brown Cow in Hampton.

Nothing like warming up by a raging fire after getting frozen in the ice. No ice? No problem, they've got ice, and the fire to warm up by, at the Chill On Lounge in Southbank. -10ºC

Be sure to book your tickets for Disney On Ice

Have you ever been ice skating or watched ice hockey? Consider watching a new sport and supporting the Melbourne Ice (Adult: $22.50, Concession: $15.00, Child 3-14 years: $10.00, Family: $55.00).

Don't forget Frozen the movie for a fun freezing family night; pop the popcorn and make an extra jug of hot chocolate.

Have you ever used figgles? Been twilight skiing? Dog sledding?

Enjoy a day in the snow and still be home in time for dinner!

For even closer to home, book the kids in at Crocs, Lollipops, or the many indoor wonders of Harbour Town at Docklands.

Peninsula Hot Springs offers social bathing for the whole family, or a quiet romantic escape for yourself or an intimate date.

I seek out a restaurant with carpeted floors in the winter; it's like the chills are absorbed right along with the echoing chair legs and reverberating voices.

Cocoon; the name says it all: A cozy chic bar in the heart of the Melbourne CBD, on the Mezzanine Level at 195 Swanston Street (enter through Soul Café and head up the stairs).

Most of these Restaurants with Playgrounds are carpeted, and many even have fireplaces that are lit in the winter months.

A hot four-and-twenty pie, a padded seat, and your favourite teams battling it out in the big stadium; what could warm the heart of a true Melburnian more than footy?

From fireworks to fireplaces and festivals to footy games, Melbourne's got you covered this winter!
