Anytime is a good time to have a detox, especially when you're feeling rather heavy and sluggish. You get that feeling that you need to go ahead and get a detox.

It is now Spring and hence now a perfect time to get cleaned out. Summer isn't too far away. Look how far this year has gone by already.

1. Colonic Irrigation

Some hunches came my way, and I did not know what would be worse - sharing my experiences as a lifestyle writer, or putting my dignity on the table. Upon advice from my friends, I paid a visit to the Colon Cafe Centre at Surry Hills, and I haven't looked back since. It is advisable to go for three sessions over a three-week period and a nutritional consultation is provided. For $95 a session, a tube is neatly placed into your rectum. You receive abdominal massages with a trained therapist while a jet of water is heading into your colon. The pressure is then released, and things don't look pretty. You can see the bile and other crap leaving your system. Although the treatment wasn't overly comfortable (that hospital feeling comes alive) you feel incredibly lighter. Thankfully Meredith stayed with me the entire time. My skin is glowing once more. Many people also lose weight and report sleeping better at night. The pleasure that comes out at the end outweighs the 40 minutes of pain during the treatment.

2. Raw vegetable Juices

Raw juices for a week is a great way to clean your insides out. Top Juice at The Galeries Victoria supplied me with many nutritional juices without the hassle of using a food processor or juicer at home. Raw vegetables such as carrot, ginger, beetroot and spinach to name blend in so well together. For those occasions when the raw juices alone weren't filling enough, compliment the raw juices with fish and salad. Some vegetable soups were great in such cases as well. I found the grilled fish at QVB Seafoods to taste amazing. It is now great to revert back to normal food choices after a good cleaning out recently.

3. Exercise

Sydney is home to some great fitness events such as the City 2 Surf, and is home to some fantastic walking trails. Think Manly beach to Shelley Beach. The wind and the water views are just stunning. Extend that walk up the flight of stairs to the heads. The Bay Run in the inner west is also an amazing walking trail. Otherwise the city is home to some great gyms, with a new one having just opened up in Druitt Street, founded by Madonna herself. If a membership is not you for, opt for a few casual visits at many different gyms while on your detox program.

Follow the essentials and the rest of the health benefits from detoxing will fall into place. Of course, it is best to seek professional medical advice before embarking on any detox program.
